INSURANCE . . . THE BEST POLICY
Why You Should Have
a Mexico Insurance Travel Plan
There are many reasons that you should have a Mexico Insurance Travel Plan. The first is of course to make sure that if you need proper medical treatment while in Mexico that you will receive it. Aside from just healthcare though, there are several other things that can, and should be, included in a travel plan. Mexico Travel Insurance is not just for those who live in Mexico. It’s also necessary for anyone who plans on traveling to the country for a brief visit or a work related stay.
If you have ever travelled somewhere and all of your luggage arrived when you did, then you are lucky! Many people take trips and find that when they arrive, their luggage has been sent to another airport or destination far from where they are. Travel Insurance can cover the cost of lost luggage so you won’t be stuck in Mexico without your personal belongings. There is nothing worse than arriving for vacation and discovering that your clothing and personal items didn’t make the trip with you. Also, there may be something that comes up and you have to cancel the trip entirely. If that happens, you would want to make sure you have a trip cancellation on your travel policy.
Accidents can happen to anyone at any time and they can be quite costly when you need medical attention. A relaxing walk on the beach can lead to tripping and possibly fracturing an arm or leg, or even worse. When things like that happen, many people just assume they can go to the hospital or clinic and get bandaged up and go home. This is not so in Mexico as clinics and hospitals will require to be paid at the time of insurance at the time of treatment. If you don’t have travel medical insurance, a small injury can cost you thousands out of pocket to pay before you can even be released. You can even be criminally charged if you cannot pay what is required. Having insurance that will cover medical expenses while in Mexico will save you money as well as provide peace of mind in knowing that if something unexpected does happen, you will be able to receive the right treatment and can leave the clinic or hospital.
Another very important aspect to consider is that medical emergencies often require having to be transported to another facility who can better handle the emergency, or even being flown back to the United States for care. If you don’t have an evacuation plan on your policy you risk the chance of being stuck in a facility that doesn’t have the proper equipment to treat you or the access to life-saving medicines or surgery. Not having an evacuation plan can be akin to planning your own funeral because evacuation could be the difference between life and death. You always want to make sure that you have an emergency evacuation plan included on your travel insurance policy.
Many people have a healthcare policy in the United States and they never check to see if they are covered internationally. Health Insurance from the United States is not accepted in Mexico due to the Insurance laws in Mexico. Your current health plan, including Medicare, will not help you while you’re in Mexico. Making sure that you have a good travel insurance policy is necessary anytime that you make plans to be in Mexico and outside of the United States.
