Talk to the people who live in the places of interest. In Todos Santos, a favorite place for us to rub shoulders with local gringos, is the produce market. There always seems to be a few shopping and usually available to discuss the area. They will probably tell you how long they’ve been there and why they continue to stay. We have found the people to be most hospitable. It could be just the area, but we seem to find that the ex-pats keep themselves in good shape, and quite health-conscious. In most cases, they are not that interested in discussing the US political situation. I think they just want to get away from it
In a few days you can get a good feel for the area. You can decide whether the location advantages, are your first choices. There are so many elements that go into a relocation decision- weigh them all.
