It is a fact of life that older Americans are carrying debt into their retirement years. It has not always been like that. Young people would put money away for the retirement, pay off their home at some point, and be able to enjoy their remaining years ~ with little financial stress. Leaving the US and taking your money with you, could be an intelligent option.
